The new Virrat comprehensive school built with logs
Massive spruce lamella logs were used to build the outer walls of the new Virrat comprehensive school. The school is a large log building with a total area of over 6,000 m2, and a total of 11.5 kilometres of log was needed for the wall structures. The school was introduced in the autumn of 2021.
Log is an ecological building material for schools as well, because it has the smallest carbon footprint of all construction methods. Log has several beneficial properties, such as healthy indoor air, and there is some evidence to indicate that log can have a calming effect in the school environment.
